What is Endemic Cape?

Endemic Cape is a specialist consultancy dedicated to the conservation and holistic management of the unique ecosystems within the Cape Floristic Region. We provide expert services in plant conservation, vegetation rehabilitation, archaeobotany, indigenous knowledge systems, and sustainable agriculture, helping clients develop informed, ethical and ecologically sound solutions.

With a deep understanding of the region’s biodiversity, we offer tailored guidance to conservation initiatives, research projects, hospitality industry and land management efforts.

In addition to consulting, Endemic Cape hosts workshops and educational programs, as well as guided walks and talks in the Cape Town area, fostering public engagement with the region’s rich botanical and cultural heritage.

Through science-driven expertise and a commitment to sustainability, Endemic Cape supports efforts to protect and restore one of the world’s most biologically and culturally diverse landscapes.

Dr. Elzanne Singels is a botanist and archaeologist dedicated to understanding the deep and evolving connections between plants and people. With a strong foundation in both conservation ecology and archaeology, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to her work in plant conservation, sustainable agriculture and archaeobotany.

Elzanne completed her MSc in Conservation Ecology at Stellenbosch University and earned her PhD in Archaeology from the University of Cape Town. Currently she is a research affiliate at the Archaeology department of the University of Cape Town continuing her research on the impact the ecosystems of the Cape Floristic Region had on human evolution.

Endemic Cape has a proven track record of project management and event hosting since 2018.​

Through her work at Endemic Cape, Elzanne aims to bridge the gap between the public and science ensuring that the rich botanical and cultural heritage of the Cape Floristic Region is both preserved and appreciated for generations to come.
